News from our July Meeting

There are a number of days out planned: there are still are seats left on the coach this Saturday to Lullingstone Quilt & Craft Festival; and a trip to the African Fashion exhibition at the V&A on Wednesday 17 August – tickets are £16, with concessions available. Please let me know if you’d like to do either of those. https://www.vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/africa-fashion.

Brigitta has offered to host a sewing day at her home on Friday 29th July following up to February's Jacket / Gilet workshop and is proposing a group trip to the Knitting and stitching show at Ally Pally on Friday 7th October. Full price tickets are £18.50 but if we are a group of 10 then it comes down to £13. https://www.alexandrapalace.com/whats-on/the-knitting-stitching-show-8/ Please contact Brigitta if you are interested in either if those.

It would be good to have more social occasions: outings and occasional sewing days either on a theme or own projects. If you’d like that, please do let us have your ideas.

We talked last month about wanting to advertise the group and recruit new members. You may have seen the full-page article on Richmond and Kew Quilters in this months “Two’s company”, and our flyers will be available on the Guild stand at Lullingstone. You all have a copy of the flyer so please do post it anywhere you think would be useful, particularly in the weeks before the September meeting. We hope to have a proper leaflet available for shops etc in the Autumn.

Subscriptions and meeting fees start again in September. We are already someway into organising next year’s programme and details are on the website. If there is something you’d like to feature please do say, all offers and ideas welcome!

Benta introduced Paula Doyle’s workshop in November and talked about some challenges for the rest of the year. There is more info in the web pages set up for them.

· 12 ½” yellow and blue blocks – for a Ukraine quilt. Bring them back for September please, so volunteers can get on with joining the blocks

· Jackets - back for show and tell in October (just a prompt)

· A3 Seaside/ Ocean challenge - show and tell and votes at November's meeting

· Denim transformation- back for December meeting - show and tell and vote.

Benta and Plum introduced us to the wonders of magic cutting and placement to create complicated blocks simply. Playing with paper and scissors made for a lively, fun, way to explore these techniques- many thanks
