News from our September Meeting

Jane welcomed members back from our summer break during which we had the group visit to Lullingstone, and social groups to see Farnborough Show, and the African exhibition at the V&A. If you are thinking of attending an event or exhibition and would like company, or to join in one of the visits below, please let us know.

· Region 1’s event on Saturday 1 October with a talk by Annie Folkard

· Lady sew and sew warehouse at Henley on Thursday 6 October to source material for Paula Doyle’s workshop in November (and who knows what else might tempt us). Also a nearby lunch.

· the Knitting and stitching show at Ally Pally on Friday 7th October

We talked in July about occasional social sewing days either on a theme or our own projects. Brigitta hosted a sewing day at her home at the end of July and it would be great to have more. If you could take this up, please let us know what, when, and how many.

As you know fees and subscriptions are now payable, many thanks to those who pre-paid in July. Membership forms are available at each meeting and electronic payment or by BACs is encouraged.

We had a great show and tell with many lovely items produced over the summer, including a quilt from the mystery blocks sewn earlier in the year- Plum entered this

in the Kew Horticultural Show where it took Third Place.

The votes for Sewing Star went to Kay for her Ukrainian block – there were 12 other entries showing a wealth of imagination in the different ways this was interpreted. Do a look at all these on the Ukranian Blocks Tab

Volunteers are now requested to sew the blocks into a top; quilt it; and add binding- please do think of doing one of these and let us know. Volunteers are also requested for the refreshment rota- please put yourself down in the sign up book for a session when collecting your cuppa.

The night’s activity of making Lavender Hearts was led by Sue Hackett who kindly supplied the materials and lavender. Next month Benta will demonstrate her Christmas folded napkin- please bring your sewing kit and 2 contrasting Christmas fat quarters. For those without fabric Benta will supply Christmas fabrics for a donation of £2.50. Please also bring your patchwork or quilted clothing for the themed show and tell.

Those wishing to attend the Paula Doyle workshop on Saturday 14 November are asked to make the £25 payment by BACs or electronically at the October meeting. If you have friends who may be interested in attending the guest fee is £35.
